Freedom to Create
Decades of experience can lead to certain perks in the world
of photography (oh, tremendous talent doesn’t hurt, either). Just ask architectural photographer Tim Street-Porter.
He has secured something many photographers dream of: creative control.
While working on his upcoming book, “Rooms to Inspire in the
City: Stylish Interiors for Urban Living” (Rizzoli 2010), with his wife, writer
Annie Kelly, Street-Porter had complete editorial freedom. “We had only two
meetings during the entire project, one with our editor, and the other with the
freelance designer. We chose all the locations, and gave all the images that we
liked to the designer.”
Having an established team helps the process run seamlessly. “Rooms
to Inspire in the City” is the 5th book that Street-Porter and Kelly
have produced with designer Doug Turshen. “He invariably delivers layouts that
we are happy with.”
The power of “final
say” is one the team puts expends much time and effort to live up to, knowing
the added responsibility, and accountability, n their heads. “We really try to
make our books as perfect as possible, and follow through to see and approve
each generation of proofs.

Astronaut sharing images of earth over Twitter
If you’re a regular Twitter user, you probably see your fair share of TwitPic images during the day. But, there’s a good chance none of them have been quite as fantastic as the images of earth being sent back from astronaut, Soichi Noguchi, who is currently aboard the International Space Station. The photos show various parts of the world from Rome and Singapoure to the earthquake-ravaged Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. There’s even one of a full moon seen from space. Even the non-photographic Tweets offer a pretty cool look into life on the ISS. See? Twitter can be useful! -Stan Horaczek
