Kodak Tri-X Professional (TXP) DIscontinued in 120 and 220

Kodak has announced that “due to significantly decreased sales volumes,” TXP (ISO 320) in 120 and 220 are to be discontinued in March.

This news isn’t as significant as it might sound if you don’t keep up with film. The “real” Tri-X for small formats is Tri-X 400, coded “TX.” Tri-X Professional—TXP—is the rollfilm version of TXT sheet film, ISO 320. TXP and TX are completely different films, with only their name in common. TX 120 and 220 will continue to be available. In fact, in response to a question sent by David Goldfarb on APUG, Scott DiSabato, who is Kodak’s point person for professional film sales, says that TXP sheet film and TX are still “very strong sellers.”

For years, the only Tri-X you could get in large format sheet film sizes was Tri-X Professional, and the only Tri-X you could get in 35mm size was Tri-X 400. However, both film were available in 120 and 200, leading to endless confusion. So, in a way, the current announcement simply means no more confusion.

Tri-X 400 is the Kodachrome of black-and-white, in my humble opinion.

Toshiba TG02

Toshiba TG02 mobile phone : The information is still quite scarce, but the mentioning of the existence of the Toshiba TG02, due to the approval by the FCC, seems to be true. The TG01 was one of the first smartphones for which speed and a large display were important specifications. Last year during the Mobile World Congress, the TG01 was presented, but the expected success has not been achieved. Quickly, competing, comparable smartphones appeared on the market with improvements on especially the small details that the TG01 did not fulfill. Toshiba has watched the competition at work for a year now and has been able to reach its conclusions. Will the Toshiba TG02 be able to surpass the competition?

LensVector gets future in focus with 50M financing

Start-up LensVector has brought the total financial backing of the company to more than $50M, to further develop its technology that can shape, steer and focus light without mechanical movement. “LensVector AutoFocus” is the world’s smallest autofocus device that uses a patented technology to transform a simple liquid crystal cell into a variable focus lens. Because the solid-state autofocus element has no moving parts, it is more rugged and reliable than mechanical alternatives. It can provide change of focus from infinity to 10 centimeters…

It also comes with a Magic Filter that turns everyday scenes into unique and powerful images, as well as AF Tracking and various other automatic functions.
